This 1910s galvanometer from the Electric Manufacturing Company was used to measure small electric currents. The outer ring contains a coil of wire, and the dial in the center contains a magnetic compass. When a current is run through the wire, a magnetic field is created, and the angle of the compass needle can be used to calculate the amount of current.
