This sundial has an image of the 1933 Century of Progress Exposition’s logo which features a planet and the light from the star Arcturus. For the exposition’s opening ceremony, the light from Arcturus was used to light the exposition. This light 200 trillion miles away takes forty years to travel to Earth. Forty years was the same length of time since Chicago had hosted its last exposition, the 1893 Columbian Exposition.
