Made by W. D. Bockett, this pocket thermograph from the 1870s was used to graph body temperature, ranging from 98 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit, over the course of a day. As the printed paper dial rotated, the thin metal lever, which would hold a pen, would be carried outwards from the center of the sheet if temperature rose and inwards if temperature fell.
