This Campbell-Stokes Sunshine Recorder from Fairmount Weather Systems measures the intensity and the position of the sun by focusing its light through a glass orb onto a piece of paper, resulting in a burn. Although the original device was invented and refined in the latter half of the nineteenth century, it continues to see widespread use, especially outside the United States.
