As British shipbuilders created bigger and more powerful warships in the 16th century, they also saw the emergence of larger naval figureheads positioned at the front of the ships. As the 18th century commenced, concerns arose about the weight of these large figureheads. Consequently, restrictions were imposed on the size and weight of figureheads to ensure the safety and balance of the vessels.
