This cutaway model of the ocean liner Berengaria displays the inner workings of the ship, including multiple decks, boilers and mechanical gear, cargo storage, even an indoor swimming pool. Originally named the Imperator, the liner was built in Germany in 1912 and was the largest passenger ship afloat at the time of its launch. During World War I (1914–1919), the ship remained in port in Hamburg, Germany. After the war, the U.S. Navy briefly commissioned the Imperator into troop return service; it was later transferred to Britain as war reparations and renamed RMS Berengaria.
