This fire extinguisher features a hand-pump to spray carbon tetrachloride onto a fire, and was used on the diesel-powered Pioneer Zephyr train, famous for setting a speed record when it traveled from Denver to Chicago in 13 hours on May 26, 1934. Later studies found that Carbon Tetrachloride increases the risk of liver cancer and reacts with water at high temperatures to form highly toxic phosphene gas, resulting in its disuse in fire extinguishers by the 1950s.
