This modern-day fire nozzle from the Elkhart Brass Company is designed to flow both water and compressed air foam (CAF), onto a fire. The foam smothers a fire’s fuel, reducing its contact with oxygen and preventing further combustion from occurring. Compressed air foam is created by injecting compressed air into fire-suppressing foam. The compressed air reduces the amount of steam the foam produces, helping maintain visibility while fighting the fire.
