A miniature replica of the Oseberg Ship (Osebergskipet). In 1903, a Norwegian farmer at the Oseberg farm near Tønsberg, Norway, was digging and struck wood. He had accidentally discovered an ancient ship that had been used as a ceremonial Viking tomb. Excavation revealed the bodies of two women, along with animals and other burial gifts dating back to c. 820 CE. Owing to the extravagance of the burial, archaeologists believe these women held special positions in the community.
